Irony

The other night I watched an airplane get pulled out of the bottom of the Hudson River from my friend's living room window for hours on end. It was probably one of the stranger things I have ever seen.
Today I booked a flight to Miami for President's Day Weekend. This is a weird world.

I need a perfect white eyelet dress, lots of neon, cute wedges and mermaid hair (this one might be a bit more difficult).

Oh, do yourself some favors:

The Coen Bros. did it again!

Seriously, if you have any sort of self respect, go see Burn After Reading AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It was sooo funny, and I am slightly obsessed with Brad Pitt's character (even though I have a slight dislike towards him in recent years due to his relationship with a certain individual...). But the story was really different than most of the dribble that comes out these days (however, I am still entertained by that stuff, too) and every character was really good, although their behavior patterns made me slightly depressed.

Dexter is one of those shows I never really made a huge attempt to get into. While I have seen almost episode due to the obsession my roommate(s) and friends have with the show, Dexter's sister, DEB (played by Jennifer Carpenter aka dumb bitch from Emily Rose), makes me want to rip my hair out... so it kind of kept me away. But last night there was a gap in my TV-watching/homework-doing schedule, so I decided to watch the season premiere. It was pretty good, yet as always... totally over the top and unbelievable. But, I guess that just makes it slightly less predictable than "crime dramas" of the past (Law & Order <3). I have yet to decide if "totally over the top and unbelievable" is a good thing or a bad thing, I guess only time will tell...

Reasons to smile!

Today on my lunch break I picked up!:

Extended cut with a second disk!?!? UGH this makes me reeeally want to skip my evening class :(

And tonight starts a new season of my favoritest show forever and ever:

Tonight's episode is going to have guest star's (I'm saving myself for) Luke Perry and Sara Gilbert (and everyone knows about/mocks my ROSEANNE obsession). SO excited! However I really wish I didn't have a German exam to study for tonight because I do not want it to interfere with my busy TV/movie watching schedule.

OH AND JANUARY 23RD:

SEEING MY FAVORITE COMEDIAN/AUTHOR AND HOPEFULLY MIDGET. Seriously, Chuy HAS to be there... right? Anyway I hope that I get to meet Chelsea Handler and drink lots of Ketel One with her.

In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different

While there was a lot of talk surrounding Lifetime's original movie, the biography of Coco Chanel, I think the fact that it was THREE HOURS LONG probably scared most people away. But since DVR is the best invention ever, I watched it. While I enjoyed it simply for the fact that it was Gabrielle Chanel's "life story" (to a certain extent), I think that there was more I didn't like about the movie than liked. My biggest gripe... Audrey Tatou played a young Coco Chanel, so fittingly, she had a French accent. Fast-forward to post-World War 2 Coco... Shirley MacLaine, who made absolutely NO attempt at a French accent. Strange that the head of the Parisian fashion world spoke like she was from Ohio, huh? As well as this, like most movies/TV shows/etc, it focused too much on the ~love~ story, when I (and probably a lot of other people) wanted to be seeing the foundation of her fashion empire. Not that this was ignored, but it certainly wasn't a big enough focus in the movie. I guess if you are absolutely a Chanel addict the movie is worth watching, but otherwise, don't waste your time.

Oh and side note... last night I had a dream that Chanel had a store similar to the Marc Jacobs accessories store and I got a nylon oversized Chanel clutch for $220. But since that obviously is not and never will be reality, I have decided I would like a Chanel bag for my college graduation/birthday/Christmas. So if anyone plans on spending over $2k on me this winter, a Chanel bag would be greatly appreciated.

There's No Place Like Home

For the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz (one of my faaavorite movies!), Warner Bros and Swarovski asked some of the world's "top" shoe designers to re-create a 21st century version of Dorothy's ruby slippers. They were all unveiled yesterday, and are ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! The will be "touring" for a year and then auctioned off in 2009, with all proceeds going to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Such an incredible idea for an amazing cause!

Go to If It's Hip, It's Here to see full-sized images of all of the beautiful shoes!

BFFF

"It's almost a shame to smoke it, it's like... killing a unicorn."

Go see Pineapple Express. It was hilarious and I am going to have to go see it again ASAP when it is NOT the midnight showing because I have yet to learn that I can never stay awake during any movie uhmmm... ever! Oh and James Franco, marry me?

Kiiiind of in love.

PS: Dark Knight on 360 IMAX = better than the best.

Let's put a smile on that face!

After all of the anticipation, The Dark Knight FINALLY came out and was (as expected) incrediiiible. I am really looking forward to seeing it again on IMAX while not being seated in the second row and at a time when my contacts are not flipping around in my eyes.

Heath Ledger really did an incredible job as the Joker. The entire beginning of the movie, however, it was just making me really sad to watch him... but aside from that, the Joker didn't sound like him, look like him, or have his mannerisms in any way. Seriously an incredible performance and after watching it, it really becomes clear why Jack Nicholson had 'warned him' about taking on such a dark and disturbing role. I think the creepiest/best part was watching how Heath was walking and carrying himself toward the end of the movie when he was walking away from the hospital.

The one thing I could not stand in the movie (as predicted) was Maggie Gyllenhaal's face. Okay I really sound like the biggest asshole ever but while watching her enormous head so close up (uhhh second row remember), I pinpointed everything about her that bothers me.

So, take note of the circled area. #1 - the nose, looks like it is molded from clay. #2 - the droopy eyes (and terrible job at trying to conceal any type of bags) remind me of a Pound Puppy and that is in no way a good thing. #3 - I am not sure what that thing is called that I drew the arrow to (the little slit type thing from nose to lips) but hers is WAY too defined and thin and really creepy. And WHO in their right mind would ever believe Christian Bale would want anything to do with this... thing... ever?!?!

Now that THAT is out of my system, I would like to point out that the two seconds I got of this man made me very happy:

One week!

Since I saw Batman Begins at midnight on opening night, it is obviously appropriate to see The Dark Knight the very second it opens as well. SO! We have tickets for the 12:01 showing and I am SO EXCITED. Very glad I do not have to sit through Katie Holmes, but not entirely stoked on Maggie Gyllenhaal either (but at least she doesn't talk out the side of her mouth). What is with these less-than-great leading ladies?

Yes

Obviously went to the midnight showing and the movie was everything I was expecting/hoping for AND MORE. I don't think there was a dry eye in the theater, and if there was, I am sure the amount I cried completely made up for it. I can't wait to go see it many many more times (hi, Titanic part 2) and then for the DVD to come out. I must say the weirdest part was watching this show I have been watching on TV for SOO many years, on the big screen. Anyway, if you are a girl and you have any sort of emotions or feelings or anything of that nature... go see it right now!

Only a few days left...

The Sex & the City movie comes out SO SOON and I am very antsy! I love THIS little video about the styling for the movie, something I CANNOT wait to see... and I LOVE the obvious concentration on fabulous accessories (I am a huge fan of accessories, just ask anyone who has taken a peek into my accessories closet) -- shoes, bags, belts, jewelry! One thing I do not like, and never have, is how Samantha will have SO MUCH in one palette (for instance... in this photo, red jacket, red skirt, red belt, red shoes, red bag; Hi overkill!)<3 MAY 30TH CMERE.

Just get me a really big closet

May 30th needs to hurry up! I am SO anxious for the Sex & the City movie that I find myself watching (and crying at) the trailer every day. I have been trying incredibly hard to avoid all of the spoilers that are being posted every two seconds basically everywhere and it is getting hard! I need to see if everyone gets their "fairy tale endings"!

21.

The movie 21 is definitely not something to run out and see. Don't get me wrong, it was mildly entertaining... but the story was poor and it was WAY too long for what it was (this is the thing I most commonly find wrong with movies). And while Jim Sturgess is definitely a babe, I think I will always have something against him after that horrible disgrace of a movie that was apparently trying to ruin the songs by one of the best bands of all times (ahem, ahem). I did like the fact of how much your accurately were shown of Las Vegas (the casinos, bars, hotels, etc) but I didn't like the fact that one minute these "high-rollers" were shown throwing down thousands upon thousands in stores like Gucci and then shortly after were struggling for a few thousand dollars -- it just didn't add up. However, I love casino-based movies (The Cooler - which everyone should see, the Oceans series, etc) and the idea of card counting. While I do not think this is anything I would ever be able to do because even that "simple math" would be far too much for me, it is definitely very interesing PLUS I love black jack. I have been playing online black jack that tells you what you did right/wrong after every move. I am trying to get good/confident enough so that next time I am in Las Vegas I can play at an actual, real-life, scary TABLE. With that being said, I am at my last and final point... this silly movie produced enough Vegas withdrawal within me that I booked our ("deluxe") hotel room to celebrate Jess' 21st birthday in FABULOUS LAS VEGAS... July 24-27. Phew, it has been too long!

Funny Games Remake

So, like many people who are in love with the original German/Austrian Funny Games (1997), I was slightly skeptical about the US remake. Also, I wondered... why do it again now, more than 10 years later? But after seeing the remake, I completely realize why the director, Michael Haneke (he did the original & the remake), chose to do this new version. This version was much BETTER than the original, and it was entirely because of the acting/casting. Personally I felt every single main character in this movie fit their role perfectly. It is incredible how great both Tim Roth and Naomi Watts are conveying every single emotion -- especially when some of those emotions are so ineffectively acted out very often. Michael Pitt and Brady Corbet did an amazing job portraying the part of sociopathic serial killers that are so charming you have a love/hate relationship with them (however, I only have love for Michael Pitt). While in general the movie was exactly the same, the dialogue in some very crucial scenes was extended and it really helped to add to the development of the characters. Another thing that I loved about the remake was that they used the same (insane) German music that they used in the original; when the music comes in the first time it is just so unexpected and they used it in a really powerful way. I really recommend this movie but I would suggest seeing the original first in order to get a true appreciation for what a fabulous remake this really is.
